Barney the dinosaur..... - Creative writing

I stumble through the long grass that is pulling and strangling my legs. It's like I'm hunting through the woods again but I'm not, I'm far from it. I come to a dark and eerie clearing. I can't breath. All I can smell is something rotting beneath me. A water fall rushes and roars into a river. Above it is a building with tall towers in every shape and size. It looms over me with great power. I race towards the castle-like building like I'm running a marathon, stopping 1 metre before the door. I stare at the windows and a ghostly shadow passes through one. In fear, I turn around to run back but the mist blocks my view. I can smell a sweet smell of chocolate cake and I run across a deathly bridge, but I'm to blubbery and I plummet through the wood. Soaked, I attempt to climb the mountain that stares at me in pain. A rock breaks off and I face plant into a rock as sharp as a knife. In hell I knock the door and hear the echo go on and on. The door carefully creaks open and I step inside. Suddenly I get murded by Barney the dinosaur! I didn't want to be murded by a dinosaur, I wanted to be murded by a zombie. Well there goes that dream.

Melted Crayon Art

This term we did melted crayon art. My idea that I had picked was a dolphin under the water. But someone came up to me and asked what I was doing, as a joke I said I was doing a peacock. It was the first thing that came to my head. Then after I had said that Mr Marquand said that the peacock idea could work. I ended up changing my idea to a peacock. One of the hard things was trying to carefully indian ink the peacock body on. I like the peacock and in the flower art show thing I came 1st. I'm really proud of what I did.

Energy

Lets talk about energy.
Over the last few weeks we have been learning about energy. So what is energy?  The conservation of energy is that energy cannot be created or destroyed it only can be transformed, that means that no matter what thee will always be the same amount of energy in the world. Sound is a form of energy and sound travels. Sound can travel through solids, liquids and air, but sound travels better through solids and liquids than air. Sound travels through air at 332m per second. Sound travels in sound waves. If you get a slinky and get two people to hold each end and one person kind of shakes it you can see how it pulses along to the end and back to the start.

The things that have helped me understand energy and how it works is watching video clips on youtube, having examples shown to me like experiments, reading about it and looking at some pictures.

Are radio waves the same as sound waves?
Do radio waves travel through space?
What happens if sound waves and radio waves hit each other?

I found out some really interesting things about energy.
- I found out that light travels 7 times around the world in one second.
- Sound travels 332m per second through air.
- How lightning and thunder works.
- You can't hear sound in a vacum (because there's no air molecules).
- When sound moves through the air it vibrates the molecules around it and that carries the sound.

The day my sister tried to cook me - creative writing

I was hungry and was whinning for food. I ran to my mum bumping into the ironning board. The hot iron toppled onto my older sister. With a scream of agony I knew she would have revenge.

She told me and mum that she would get me something to eat. When I was sitting down, she yanked me out of the chair, put me into a box and taped it up. I heard clattering and the sound of a chair painfully scraping in the kitchen. Just as I was about to cry, the box opened and she grabbed me and roughly pulled me out. She sat me on a pan, a pan on the stove. To my left was mums seasonings. I wonder why they were there? I heard ticking then saw a red thing pop out from underneath me. Then my bottom was burning. I was slowly turning into KFC. I screamed at the top of my lungs and then I saw an angel. "Mummy!" I yelled. She grabbed me out of the pan and smothered me in glad wrap.

My burns were so bad that I was in hospital for 4 weeks. When I returned home my older sister was no where to be found.

Athletics report

Yesterday on the 30th of October 2013 Te Pahu School was joined by students from Paterangi ranged from 8-13 year olds. The athletics was held at Te Pahu School and Paterangi came for a fun day. This was because we had athletics.

I thought we were going to have Paterangi's blue high jump mat. Their mat is half of the thickness as our one. My favourite activity was sprints. Sprints is raced on 100m tracks. I came 1st= with my best frien Pixie, so we had to race again and I ended up coming first. I was raelly nervous at the start of the races because it was so close between me and Pixie.

My second favourite was long jump. I came first in thyat as well. Everyone would talk to each other about how far they jumped and pretty much everyone jumped further than me. But once everyone had finished one of the teachers said to Pixie that I had bumped her down and I had no idea about what she was meaning.
I came first out of the girls in hurdles, long jump, high jump and sprints. I came second in discus and shot put. I think  I'm more of a track person.
Today I have really sore legs and it was also 1000m but I didn't participate, instead I counted the laps.
Next time I would like to jump higher than I did in high jump. I have jumped 1.25m before but this year I couldn't even jump 1.20m or 1.18m. I was so gutted.

Pirongia Forest Lodge Park

Pirongia Forest PArk Lodge was buzzing with children from Te Pahu and Pirongia Schools. On Friday week 1 of term 4 Te Pahu and Pirongia Schools went to Pirongia Forest Park Lodge to clear and plant a few hundred plants in araeas around the outdoor classroom.

Ok so the outdoor classroom was looking pretty boring so the two schools spice it up a bit. We all got to plant some plants and I'm pretty sure everyone had a great time.Kate the warden also whipped us up some morning tea. Juice and biscuits "yay!" After that it was back to the hard work.

Once we had planted every single plant there was everyone including the parents and the teachers tidied up. We returned all of the gear back to the people who owned it. Walking yp the big hill was hard work, my knees ached so much, but I got over it n the end. Pirongia Schol left befor Te Pahu School and we got a big THANK YOU from Kate. Te Pahu made their way back to Te Pahu School with some great memories.

Ag day report

On the 16th of October lambs, goats and calves were making alot of noise at Te Pahu School. Te Pahu school pupils competed in a Ag day with either a calf, lamb, goat or alternative challenges which are challenges you do at home instead of a animal. Friends, family and other supporters came to cheer the pupils on. The PTA ran this activity and they also had a food stall. Kids either had a choice of an animal or alternative challenges I got to wat I thought that it was the most coldest Ag day that I had ever been to. I interviewed Taylor Begovich about her day."How did you prepare your Ag day challenge?" She replied with, "Well I had to make a plan first and after I new what I was doing I had to collect everything I needed. Then I was off." "I constructed a 3D multimedia ukelele canvas. After that I made the final touches and brought it to school." "What did you feel when you won out of the yr 7/8's for your challenge?" "I didn't really feel anything, I guess I was pretty glad though." "Did everything go according to plan?" "Yeah most of it did I think." "What did you do during the day?" "I was the photographer runner which means I had to go around telling everyone to get their photo done with their animal and mark them off once they had their photo taken." I was watching the intermediate lambs. The competitions were rearing, M.O.P and leading. Lot's of people won ribbons of all sorts of colours. I'm sure everyone had a great time and with alot of ribbons hanging on their wall.

Speed Tests

Ok so we have these speed test things we do on a Friday morning.
1: 1-10 times tables
2: 3-12 times tables
3: Division
4: Conversion
5: Knowledge
6: Factors.
Now there didn't used to be a factors speed test but I finished all of the speed tests. I thought I didn't have to do it anymore, but Mr Marquand made a new one so that I could keep on doing the speed tests. But now I have finished the factors one, I wonder what one Mr Marquand will make next?

Speeches

Last week we had speeches. My speech was about New words and acronyms being added into the dictionary. Here is the first paragraph of my speech: And I was like: I love your selfie by the way And she was like: I know right ll And I was like: YOLO These words have been made popular because of pop culture. 'I <3 ur shirt btw' I don't know why people say it like that. Are they just as lazy as a sloth? Hmm I'm not sure.
I think that overall my speech was ok. I was so neverous I really didn't want to say it infront of the whole class but I got over it in the end. By the way I was posing because Amy or Pixie were about to take a photo so I asked them to take it of me. P.s YOLO

Energise leadership day

Last term Room 7 went to Paterangi school for the day. Our energise teacher put together a leadership day for all of the Year 7&8's. I had a fun day. Some of the activities were unusual but we got the hang of them in the end.

Market Day

On Friday the 13th our school had a Market day. Most of the classes had a stall. Pixie, Amy and I made milkshakes, fuge cakes, toffee and cocnut ice. We made 615 gongs in total. Gongs was our currency just like our dollars are. I think that the day ended wel and that everyone had a great time. I bought a pillow thing that I can put my phone in and two slushies. Once the bell had gone for pack up time there was still ice-cream left in the container, so Amy shoved the ice-cream into our mouths.

Skiing

On the 6th of September, 2013 room 7 went to Mt Ruapehu for a snow trip. We had to be at school by 6:00 AM so we could get a full day of skiing or boarding. Once I had gotten my ski's and poles I went down happy valley. It was really fun. My ski lesson started at 11:00 AM and went to 1:00 PM. Once we had skied a few times Pixie and Graham hired a sled each. Taylor, Pixie, Lilly, Amy, Gramham, Daniel and I went doubles or triples down the little slope. Graham, Daniel and I went triples down the slope and Daniel slid off, then our sled flipped. Graham chased the sled then jumped into it and carried on. Once we had left the mountain we carried on our journey back to the school. We all met at the closest McDonald's and all had dinner. Because I had no other clothes to change into I changed into my onezies and everyone was starring at me like I was a weirdo. I would absoulutely go again. At one part of the day it was so hot that I wanted to keep on face planting. Next time I would go the next skill level up. The advice I would give would be to keep perserving and never give up, but make sure you wear sunblock.

Pirongia Lodge

Last week Room 7 went up to the Pirongia Lodge to have a look at the new outdoor classroom. Because we are helping the Lodge with planting and clearing we got to have a turn on the new flying fox that is 10 metres high. But before that Kate (The warden) took us into the bush a little bit. She started to clap her hands and whistle. She did this because one of the North Island Robins that we released earlier this year comes to this call. Kate then fed the Robin mealworms, after a while it was full.

Kaleidocope art.

At the end of last term we did kaleidoscope art. The picture I had was a green butterfly on a pink flower. The hardest part was actually trying to get the whole thing look the same. Without having white lines in between the picture. Next time I would like to not stuff up and double check if I am doing it right.

Monday, 5 August 2013

Collage art.

At the start of this term (term 3) we did collage art. It was really fun. I made the first converse shoe and the tree with the blue background. The hardest part was working with the white paper and trying not to get it dirty.

Kindy Reading

Room 7 went to the pre-school that is down the road from our school. Everyone was selected to read to the little people. Pixie and I read to a little girl and she was really funny. When Pixie or I would read our book she would keep laughing at random stuff. She would also start playing with things around her. In the end we started to make a house for her out of some toys the pre-school had. It was fun and I would probably do it again.

Maths

A little while ago we learnt about weight and measurement. Some of the things we did was trying to get counters to weigh the same as the tennis ball. It was about 30 counters or more, I can't remember now.

Science fair

In room 7 everyone made a science fair board. My science fair was about adding different amounts of yeast to each batch.
Aim: What is the best amout of yeast for bread rolls?
I found it quite annoying because  you would glue things down, then they would dry. Once you thought you had finished they would  stick up off your boards. It was also quite annoying becauseI was the second one finished and we had to help people or do other things.
Next time I would like to have more oringinal ideas added into my science fair.

Winter sports

In the middle of this term we had winter tornament. We had to practice until we were perfect so we could compete. The netball team I was in won one of our games and lost the otheere five. Our games were 12 minutes long.

Density

We did some science experiments. Two of the experiments were to do with density. In the second picture we poured different liquids to see what doesn't sink and how dense it is. In the first picture we mixed salt with water. Then we placed a egg in the salt water. Guess what! The egg floated and stayed in the middle of the liquid.

The Fish

Early this term we have been doing some science experiments. One of them was to do with a big stinky fish. We measured it and even weighed it. Some people even tried to hold it up. In the class we have three jars. In each of the jars there is  piece of the fish. The first jar is a control, the second piece of fish is covered in lemon juice and the third piece is covered in salt. We did this to see which would preserve the fish the best. Some of the people cut open the fish's eye, to see what was inside.

Cross Country

On Friday 24th of May we had cross country. I came 3rd in my age group. We had to run 2km in different paddocks and back up to our school. I think that the hardest part was running up the hills and trying to keep my pace. Next time I would like to practice more at home.

Makahuri Students

In term one our school had the Makahuri students come to visit us from Japan. When the Makahuri students come we get to do all sorts of things like musical chairs, writing our names in Japanese and origami. The Makahuri group performed in front of us. It was really fun to learn some of the Japanese culture.

Camp

At camp we had a disguised dinner. We had to disguise ourselves so Mr Marquand didn't know who we were. I dressed up as the easter bunny with my friend. We also went to the lake Karapiro dam museum. At the museum there were old control panels which they used to control how much water is let out.

Robin boxes in the making

In term one we made robing boxes so some people could transfere them onto Mt Pirongia. The hardest thing was hot gluing the mesh over the breathing holes because the glue was hot. On a Sunday when it was the day to release the robins I turned up so I could help release them. All of the birds flew quickly out of the boxes into the forest. I think that this was a great idea because all of the robins that were on Mt Pirongia had died or the eggs had been eaten by rats and other predators.

Silage Stacking

We did silage stacking at a local farm to fundraise for trips and other things we might do. When you are doing silage stacking you have to be careful. Because when you are walking on the polythene you could make a hole and the silage will go mouldy and that is not good for the cows. In the end we did make a couple of holes but we got them fixed up. I think that the hardest part, was passing on the heavy tyres up to the next person.

Pencil Portraits

In room 7 we are learning to sketch and shade  to make our face look symmetrical. I think that the hardest part was shading the eye. Next time I would shade the face darker so it looks similar to the picture.
